Jonathan Spence is the CEO of Xtracta, where he leads the vision to simplify automation for businesses worldwide. With over 15 years of leadership in technology and AI-driven platforms, Jonathan combines deep product insight with a relentless focus on customer outcomes. Prior to Xtracta, he served in senior roles across SaaS, fintech, and enterprise IT companies.
Since starting Xtracta in 2010 as a small side project, Jonathan Spence has grown the business into an established data extraction service. Unsatisfied by the options available in the market, Jonathan created Xtracta to deliver accurate and reliable document scanning solutions, which now offer comprehensive data extraction software integration.
As the CEO of Xtracta, Jonathan enjoys wearing many hats. From operations and sales to business development, strategy, and optimisation, Jonathan embraces the range of responsibilities and challenges of the role.
No two days are the same for Jonathan, who enjoys leading from the front and providing assistance where it is needed most. With touchpoints across every department, Jonathan connects different teams and contributes to solutions. Eliminating silos and bringing teams closer is just one way Jonathan helps evolve Xtracta as a product and a tool.
From helping the operations team to assisting with sales, Jonathan values staying closely connected to the business on the ground level. Proximity to each team allows Jonathan to drive strategic initiatives as they are happening to shape the direction of Xtracta.

Jonathan’s success with Xtracta reflects a history of entrepreneurship and interest in IT. Having attended a school ahead of its time where students were given a laptop, his early immersion in computers led him to establish his first business before completing university, where he provided wireless internet to local homes. He took an interest in artificial intelligence before it became ubiquitous in the IT and business world, ensuring Xtracta was well-positioned to enter and evolve with the market by finding the right people to build an AI engine in-house, a tool they continue to refine.
Jonathan enjoys an active lifestyle outside of work, whether playing soccer, kayaking, or teaching Tae Kwon Do. With a passion for hiking, Jonathan also has a knack for exploring lesser-known walks around New Zealand and recommends checking out hidden gems where possible
